In this paper, we discuss:

  • The rise of the “electrostate,” where electricity and electrification become central to economic growth, industrial policy, and geopolitical power;
  • China’s state-led electrification model, combining renewable expansion, grid integration, industrial policy, and energy security;
  • Electrification as a response to both domestic pressures and geopolitical tensions with the West;
  • China’s global projection of electrical infrastructure through the Belt and Road Initiative, exporting grids, standards, and clean-energy systems;
  • The growing geopolitical importance of electricity networks, with Western concerns rising over dependence on Chinese energy and grid infrastructure.
